This wall hanging had it all: *Scotland's Flag showing the white cross symbolizing the cross upon which Christ died (yes, an actual Roman cross). *The Thistle which for some reason is the state flower. I would have thought the Heather would have reflected the countryside better. (Or barley which is grown in great quantities to make whiskey.) * The Unicorn which is Scotland's state animal. I'm sure they told us why. Maybe Addy knows??? *The Lion which represents England in the state animal category. *The Chain. I'm guessing here, but representing the link between the Scottish crown and the English monarchy. I think it was supposed to be a positive thing, given it was on the wall of Stirling castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots grew up. |
