About Interpretation Knowledgeable and expert art historians guided us through Florence's art. The past to a large extent is unknown, even in Italy with its plethora of clues, and well educated theories describe much of the current understanding regarding the why and what and who about an art object. For instance, at the Sistine Chapel, our guide clarified that new information about measurements and probabilities indicated that Michelangelo was actually standing, not lying down, to paint the ceiling. But when it comes right down to it, whether I like it or not or whether or not its story is appealing is what draws me. I especially liked this interpretation from a co-traveler regarding this painting: "He said he was working late." |
About Street Entertainment Mea culpa. I should have given this one-man band a couple of euro for snapping his picture. I stopped taking photos of the street entertainers when one came after me, and I yelled over my shoulder as I ran after my tour guide, that I'd delete the picture. Who would have thought? But this guy had a very kind face. |
